Surfboards, they’re greeeeaaat!

The invention of surfboards has created a distinctive way of bringing a variety of cultures together as one, in the worldwide sport known as, surfing. Surfboards link geographical connections from sea to sea through technological and social conditions, by where and how they are made, how they have impacted the places in which they are used, and how they connect the place it is made to other places that make all of these connectivities possible. Acknowledgment of all the positive aspects that go into surfboard development will allow someone who has never surfed before to respect one of the hardest sports in the world. The growth of the surfboard industry exemplifies the technological and social conditions that have shaped the radical sport of surfing. In an attempt to mass produce surfboards in a global perspective, while at the same time striving to keep the world a better place, surfboards have given people nothing but good vibes and a hard challenge.

Although surfing is highly cultural, riding a surfboard is completely an individual task when paddling out to sea to catch a gnarly wave, in which it requires balance, skill, and personal strength, both mentally and physically. When riding a surfboard the rider has the option of riding either regular or goofy. When taking off and catching a wave regular style, riders can put their right foot back and left foot forward in the process of standing up on their surfboards. When paddling to catch a wave goofy style, riders can put their left foot back and right foot forward when standing up on their surfboards. The feeling a surfer gets from catching a wave is an intensifying feeling; after all, the bigger the wave is the greater that feeling is for the person riding the surfboard. Every surfer’s dream is to ride the perfect left or right, which simply means that the curl of the wave breaks perfectly to the left or right, creating a long a smooth ride. The ultimate dream of a surfer is to be inside the barrel of a wave and make it out of the tube before it swallows the surfer into the depths of the ocean. The thrill that surfers get when riding their surfboard is that no one can change the natural destiny of the waves. Spiritual and religious emotions are heavily involved with surfing due to the power and greatness of the sea. Recognition of God’s glory is magnificently represented in the midst of every single set of waves that He creates for those who believe in Him.

Surfboards can be made up of various materials depending on what type of board is desired to be made for a certain type of wave. Specifically speed, style, balance, and comfort are the basic dynamics measured when choosing certain materials to make a surfboard. Yet, there are many other factors when deciding what materials are needed for certain styles of riding. Buying surfboards can be very pricy, but there are always surf shops that rent out boards if that is a dilemma. I really recommend anyone who loves the water and the ocean to paddle out!
