Sunset Trail

Walking through The University of Arizona during sunset at six o’ clock p.m., I find myself in a very peaceful state of mind. Starting at the southeast corner of the Administration Building in the Alumni Plaza I begin my journey taking pictures of the Heritage Trail for a class assignment. My iPod earphones fitted comfortably in my ears with a mixture of chill songs from the band Slightly Stoopid. My attire consisted of a summer outfit: flip-flops, shorts, t-shirt, and a trucker hat. The weather outside was a very pleasing temperature surrounded by random gusts of wind that cooled my body off. The beautiful sunset set a beautiful array of lighting through the ancient date palm trees that stretch tall in the sky. Starting at the Alumni Plaza, I walked my way down the mall past the Student Union to Old Main. Several thoughts crossed my mind in awe of all of the history that has been made at this first Arizona Land-Grant University. I have walked around the campus so many times to get from one destination to another. However, I have never felt so peaceful walking around this campus until this specific day. Maybe it is because I do not have class today or it is the Tucson weather that is slightly cooling off, but I really enjoyed walking around for about an hour watching the sunset into night. From the Engineering building down North Campus Drive around the President’s House/Fish Pond, I walked around the Arizona State Museum to the Douglass Building on University Boulevard. The campus was full of people casually walking, biking, and skateboarding around university grounds. With school on students and teachers minds, this campus allows everyone to feel the way that the founders of this university desired for us. Millions of students have attended this university over hundreds of years gaining their education and degrees at this exact campus. It amazes me that I am adding to the large number of students that have enrolled at U of A in their lifetime. I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to spend four amazing years at this beautiful school. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world. I have acquired the greatest group of guy and girl friends during my time here with the majority of them being in Greek life. I have found a place that will be with me for the rest of my life. Walking down past the Chemistry building I take my final picture at the Bear Down Gymnasium. Reminiscing on my very peaceful walk, I look through the different pictures that I took. All my pictures were clear and perfect for the assignment, but it was the deep understanding of being able to walk around campus critically thinking about all the heritage of the university that added value to my experience. I look forward to the times later in life when I will come back to the University of Arizona and remember all of the amazing experiences and lessons learned at this great place in Southern Arizona.
