Artist: Incubus
Song Title: Aqueous Transmission
I'm floating down a river
Oars freed from their homes long ago
Lying face up on the floor
Of my vessel
I marvel at the stars
And feel my heart overflow
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Two weeks without my lover
I'm in this boat alone
Floating down a river named emotion
Will I make it back to shore?
Or drift into the unknown
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
I'm building an antenna
Transmissions will be sent
When I am through
Maybe we can meet again
Further down the river
And share what we both discovered
Then revel in the view
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
I'm floating down a river (6x then fades)
This song is one of my favorite songs when I am tired after a long day; in which, my body is completely relaxed. This song brings back so many good memories of being close to the water. Whether it is the ocean, lake, pool or river. I close my eyes and let my mind flow with the beautiful music within this song. When I am down and tired after along day of work or school, I play this seven minute and forty-nine second song to enter a peaceful state of mind. Sometimes, I even put it on replay and listen to it over and over until I fall asleep. The sweet music has an oriental melody that is soft and well constructed. The variety of instruments flows perfectly with the tone of Brandon Boyd’s voice, allowing for a remarkably matchless song compared to other songs by Incubus and other bands. The vibes that flow through my body are unexplainable when listening to this song. It is a song that is great for personal meditation after pushing yourself as far as your limits will take you. I believe this song that Brandon wrote could have been while he was on tour. This is what I envision on how and where this song is made. If you put yourself in Brandon’s shoes, he just got done with a killer show in front of thousands of fans screaming and singing his songs. In this moment, his singing was perfectly in harmony with the rest of the band. During this concert he gave everything he had, expressing the emotions that comes out when he sings the words that come from his heart. After this successful concert, he is very tired and his ears are ringing uncontrollably. The band then regroups back to the tour bus. Now Brandon is laying down in his tour bus, which is barreling down the road to their next big show. Brandon feels exhausted, but at the same time at peace and enlightened (possibly a religious state of mind such as Hinduism?) After playing such a hard set, his album that he had been working on is almost finished. However, one more song was necessary to write before he finalized his Morning View album. Hence, this is why this song is the last track on the album. This is what I think these three themes mean in my own opinion:
The river = the road
The bus = his vessel
The stars = lights on the bus
A few years ago I had the privilege to see Incubus at the Edge Fest in Tempe, Arizona. It was by far the most magical concert I have ever witnessed. I have seen hundreds of concerts in my lifetime, but something was special about this show, it was amazing! I highly recommend anyone who loves music to check out this band. If you like Incubus, listen to this song and try to depict what this song means for you!
